Putting the months-long Internet rumors to rest, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner announced that the Magic Mike star was on board to play Gambit in a proposed solo film.
On the X-Men: Days of Future Past red carpet in London, Donner told TotalFilm:
“He’s a rogue, Channing, he’s a rascal, like Remy LaBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that.”
The rumors started in September 2013, when Tatum expressed interest in playing the mutant superhero.
“Gambit’s the only X-Man I ever loved,” Channing told Entertainment Weekly, “He’s the most un-X-Man X-Man that’s ever been an X-Man … he loves women and drinkin’ and smokin’.” (Tatum, of course, referencing the strong Southern ties between himself and the beloved Marvel character.)
In a spinoff tradition that started with Wolverine, we’re hoping for more solo films. Which Marvel character would you want to get their own film next?
