A new trailer for CBS’ “Picard” series dropped at San Diego Comic Con, and we got several clues to the timing and Easter eggs.
If you haven’t watched it yet, there are MAJOR SPOILERS ahead, so here you go. Once you watch, check out below the jump.
Ok, now that you’ve seen it, here’s what it tells us. In the voice over, Picard mentions Data sacrificing himself (Star Trek: Nemesis) “nearly two decades ago,” putting the series takes place in the 2390s, just before the turn of the 25th century. Up to five years after the events of Nemesis, according to the first trailer, Picard led “the greatest rescue armada in history,” leading the unnamed narrator “out of the darkness.”
At some point in the 20 years since the last Prime Timeline movie, Picard was promoted to admiral and retired. We also know that the Borg figure heavily into the new series, between images of a Borg cube and the appearance of Star Trek: Voyager‘s Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) hinting heavily that the mystery woman is a former drone.
What we know beyond the trailer is that Brent Spiner (B-4), Jonathan Frakes (Captain William Riker) and Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi) will all be making cameos along with Jeri Ryan. We have yet to see if LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Michael Dorn (Worf), Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher) or Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) will make appearances, but it would be hard not to include the rest of the iconic Next Generation cast at some point.
