At “A Panel of Ice and Fire” on Thursday, Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) charmed the Comic Con crowd.

She talked as much Game of Thrones as she and co-stars Keisha Castle-Hughes (Obara Sand) and Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell) could divulge, given the secrecy around the HBO hit. The castmates teased several times, asking “wait, Jon Snow…he’s dead, right? Or is he?” They also hinted at an upcoming Dornish story arc, apparent when Dormer said she had dinner with the showrunners at a restaurant in Spain.

Dormer plays a very calculating and intelligent Margaery, but it could have been different! When she auditioned for the show, she read as “a character that was not a queen that was going to get thrown in jail,” but another actress was cast in the role. After her audition, the producers approached her to play Margaery, a role she was hesitant to play after portraying what she considered to be a similar role in The Tudors as Anne Boleyn. She finally accepted, and the rest is history…but what about that original audition? Who did she read as?

You’ll have to pry the answer out of someone else, since Dormer vowed not to reveal that role until Game of Thrones is over. But we’re sure you have your own theories, so what are they?

She didn’t audition until after Ned Stark had met his fate, so what roles could it have been?

Brienne of Tarth? The elegant actress might have locked swords with The Hound and been a mentor to Podrick!

Obara Sand? Could she have been the Dornish bastard(ess?) who swears vengeance on the Lannisters for the demise of The Viper?

What about Missandei? She could have played the advisor of the Khalessi, a right hand of the Mother of Dragons.

Maybe Ygritte? Love interest of Jon Snow, victim of little Ollie’s arrow.

Or maybe she read for Osha, the Wildling keeping watch over Bran Stark; or Myrana, a part of Ramsay Bolton’s twisted world. What do you think? Any of these? None of them? All of them?!
